Description
You will be hard pressed to find a cleaner, more well equipped Cruisers 3870. Indeed, at the time of listing, this is the ONLY 3870 on the market. And what a nice yacht she is:
- Mercruiser 8.1 Liter Engines
- NEW Simrad Electronics (Chart, Radar, Depth, VHF)
- NEW Canvas Package with Strataglass Enclosure
- NEW Interior Carpet Runners
- NEW Fusion Stereo System
- NEW Group 27 Batteries - 4 (2020)
This boat has enjoyed a life spent in freshwater during the summer months, and indoor heated storage in the winter months. It is serviced, well equipped, and ready to go. This Cruisers is the very paradigm of "turn key condition".
REMARKS
Yes...these engines have 1650 hours on them. The generator around 2300. The conventional wisdom is that this is too many. I've been around boats for many, many years. And this conversation often floors me. Are hours relevant? Of course they are.
However, there is often a misconception of what these engines are capable of. This boat has been used gingerly with many of it's hours spent at idle speeds going up and down a river or harbor entertaining guests.
Think of car engines today. If you drove - on the average - 60 mph (which is unrealistic by most of our standards...generally the average is much much lower) and we put 1,000 hours on this imaginary car...how many miles would that be?: 60,000. Would you consider a car with 60,000 miles risky? No you wouldn't. And again, realistically...an actual car likely has more like 28,000 miles on it at 1,000 hours.
We have an old work van at our shop here...and it has a 6.2 gas engine. This vehicle records hours because it's a commercial vehicle. It has 8,875 hours on it...and it runs like the day it was built. And it's driven on hot days in dirty environments with road grime and dust. Boats run in pristine environments are cooled by nice cool, clean fresh lake water.
In this part of the world - boat engines are "over maintained". That is what matters! Good service history leads to strong compression. And strong compression leads to boating enjoyment. In June of 2020...this boat underwent a full mechanical inspection - complete with compression checks - and the compression numbers were like new and the engines were given a clean bill of health.
SO YES...THIS BOAT HAS SOME HOURS...BUT ONE OF THE BEST MECHANICS IN THIS AREA HAS GIVEN IT A CLEAN BILL OF HEALTH. I HAVE THE REPORT AND WOULD BE HAPPY TO SHARE IT WITH YOU. Don't overlook this boat because you know a guy that has a cousin that is married to a guy that says 1500 hours is too many. Instead, talk to an expert - and the one we talked to said this boat is GOOD TO GO.
This is a beautiful, clean, freshwater boat that has received excellent maintenance and care. I spend a lot of time boating in this area, and there is nothing more compelling to me about a boat than this: I see this boat out being enjoyed almost every time I'm on the lake. It's idling up and down the Kalamazoo river with people smiling, sharing stories, and enjoying the ride. It's being used EXACTLY the way it's supposed to be and will make an excellent boat for the day boater or long range cruiser.
